Flat bread belongs to the group of thin bread types that can be baked, grilled, or fried with or without oil.
It is a way to prepare and wrap up sandwiches, using healthy ingredients.
Besides for making sandwiches you can serve pita bread with various dip recipes.
You can make fast food at home making it healthier and by using fresh ingredients that you choose and cook.
This is a recipe for a thin pita bread not pocked pita bread. It makes 10 to 12 pieces.
INGREDIENTS:
500 gr. all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons dry yeast
2 tablespoons oil
250 ml. lukewarm water
Put all ingredients in a bowl, knead well until the pita dough takes a shape of an elastic ball. Sprinkle some flour on the top, cover with warm cloth and leave it in a warm place to rest and rise at least for an hour.
Now take the bowl, take out the dough, knead well, place it on a floured surface and cut it in 10 to 12 pieces. Depends on how big you want your sandwich.
Use a pin to open every ball of dough to open it in round shape, not to thin.
Pierce the surface of each pita bread with a fork so it will not rise while frying.
Use a heavy bottom skillet to fry them. You can fry them without oil, or wipe the bottom of the skillet with oiled peace ofkitchen paper. Fry for a minute or two on each side similar to pancakes.
For healthier and more tasty version bake your pita bread on the grill.
